Hulot, ADEME, Solar Impulse: an alliance to fight global warming
On 30 October 2017, in the presence of Nicolas Hulot, Bruno Lechevin, Chairman of ADEME, and Bertrand Piccard (1), President of the Solar Impulse Foundation, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Thanks to this agreement, the Global Alliance for Efficient Solutions and ADEME will strengthen their cooperation to promote clean and cost-effective technologies to combat global warming.
The Global Alliance for Efficient Solutions was initiated as a result of the Solar Impulse project, which in 2016 enabled the first circumnavigation of the world in a solar-powered airplane.
The Alliance brings together startups, companies, institutions and organizations that produce, exploit or support clean technologies around the world. Its mission is to present, by COP24 in 2018, 1,000 cost-effective and efficient solutions to governments, companies and institutions to help them achieve their environmental goals and adopt more ambitious legal frameworks.
The first General Assembly of the Alliance will take place on 14 November during COP23 in Bonn and will bring together the members of the Alliance.
The Memorandum of Understanding, concluded for a renewable period of two years, establishes bilateral cooperation between ADEME and the Alliance on subjects of common interest, particularly in the fields of clean and economical technologies, as well as the development of practices with a low carbon footprint.
"Your cooperative actions within the framework of the Alliance will undoubtedly contribute to giving new impetus to the promotion and deployment of ecologically sustainable solutions that will improve our daily lives," said Nicolas HULOT, Minister for Ecological and Solidarity Transition.
Specifically:
- ADEME and the Alliance will exchange information (roadmaps, visions, etc.) on the subjects of foresight, the emergence of sectors and exemplary projects implemented in the territories;
- ADEME and the Alliance will contribute with interested partners to operations for the dissemination and promotion of clean technologies, in order to promote their use worldwide, particularly at the regional level;
- ADEME will identify innovative eco-companies that can join the Alliance, in particular through the ADEME International Club, and exemplary projects supported internationally ;
- ADEME will be able to support projects initiated by members of the Alliance by relying on the capacity building programmes it implements in the framework of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
For Bruno LECHEVIN, President of ADEME, "Joining the Alliance seemed to me to be a natural way to promote the development of solutions to combat global warming that will enable us to initiate the necessary changes in our society to meet the social, societal, environmental and health challenges. »
"By bringing together key players in the clean technology field, our goal is to accelerate the implementation of cost-effective solutions to encourage governments and businesses to adopt more ambitious energy and environmental policies. ADEME, like the Global Alliance, benefits from an important network of innovative solutions. This synergy will enable us to act even more effectively and will add real value to our joint efforts. » declares, for his part, Bertrand Piccard, President of the Solar Impulse Foundation.
