The award ceremony took place on Thursday 11th April in Brussels in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert of Monaco, godfather of this second edition. Objective ? To promote European startups that put technology and innovation at the service of cleaner, safer and more inclusive mobility in Europe and around the world.
The free Geovelo application has been working since 2010 to make travelling on two wheels easier and safer. A pioneer in bicycle route planning, the application provides the user with guidance and orientation towards the most suitable routes (safety, difficulty, road quality...). It also enables the collection of essential information on the state of urban cycling facilities such as road quality, danger zones, street use, traffic peaks, waiting times at intersections, departure and destination zones, etc. These are all valuable data to support the work of road services.
"This award is more than just recognition for our company...says Gaël Sauvanet, Tourangeau, who became director in 2013. In addition to giving us a real international visibility, this prize will open up networking opportunities and access to five European events. So many opportunities for us to go international. »
Geovelo's database has been built up since July 2016 thanks to more than 100,000 active cyclists, for a total of more than 1.2 million kilometres travelled in 2018, the majority of which are in the Paris region (53 % of the routes tracked by Geovelo are in the Ile-de-France region, including 26 % for intramural Paris).
This prize confirms France's leadership in sustainable mobility innovation, so what are the challenges and prospects for Geovelo? Mobility innovation, a French speciality?
