Network of livings labs in France: creation of the association "France Living Labs".
Since ENoLL ("European Network of Living Labs") approved the first French living lab (ICT Usage Lab, in Sophia Antipolis) in 2006, the network of living-labs has grown considerably in France, with annual waves of certification. No less than 11 new French living labs were inducted during the ceremony announcing the results of the 6th wave in Mechelen (Belgium) on May 23, 2012, making France the country with the largest contingent of living labs in this 6th wave.
This brings the French network to 47 living labs out of the 320 labelled by ENoLL. On the strength of this enthusiasm, the French network was formed on 12 March 2012 as an association under the law of 1901 under the name of France Living Labs (F2L). This association benefits from the official support of ENoLL and represents the French chapter of ENoLL.
What is a living lab?
An open innovation laboratory, the living lab places the user at the heart of the system in order to design and develop innovative products and/or services that meet society's expectations and needs. Thus the relevance of the service or product created is more important once the need has been very precisely defined thanks to the user's participation, and once the user has also been involved in the design and test phases.

Living labs therefore contribute to the emergence of a new innovation system where users/citizens are no longer mere consumers but become actors and contributors.
Why the France Living Labs association?
France Living Labs aims to provide operational support to its members, to facilitate the exchange of experiences, methods and good practices, and finally to promote living labs approaches through common communication.
This network, which will thus enable the living labs' approaches to gain credibility and visibility, and thus to be recognised at national, European and international level, is intended to become the sole interlocutor with the ministries and relations with ENoLL. The association will support the development and deployment of living labs in France.
