GISELLE
Romantic ballet par excellence, Giselle marks the apogee of a new aesthetic. Vaporous tutus, white gauze, tulle and tarlatan invade the stage. In the fantastic transfiguration of a tragedy, the Wilis participate in the illusion of immateriality. Created at the Royal Academy of Music on June 28, 1841, the ballet travels to Russia and disappears from the repertoire before its return to France in 1910. It is today in the version by Patrice Bart and Eugène Polyakov, faithful to the original choreography of Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, that the ballet continues to confirm its first successes. Luminous and terrestrial scenes, nocturnal and spectral visions: dance becomes the language of the soul and the ballerina by her aerial presence seems to triumph over gravity.
