Arnaud MONTEBOURG and Fleur PELLERIN appoint Loïc RIVIERE as head of the Digital Sector Strategic Committee.

Arnaud MONTEBOURG, Minister for Production Turnaround, and Fleur PELLERIN, Minister Delegate in charge of Small and Medium Enterprises, Innovation and the Digital Economy, have appointed Loïc RIVIERE as Vice-Chairman of the Strategic Committee for the Digital Sector.

The Digital Sector Strategy Committee is one of the thirteen committees of the National Council of Industry that bring together industrialists, employee representatives and public authorities, with the aim of strengthening their competitiveness. The work of the Sector Strategic Committees takes the form of the drafting and implementation of sector contracts, which formalize the mutual commitment of committee members to a set of competitiveness measures defined according to a "give and take" principle.
The digital sector has been identified for the particular challenges it presents for the future of our country, given the impact of digital technologies, products and services on the growth of the entire economy, and their role in innovation in all industrial and service activities.

Arnaud MONTEBOURG indicated that digital technology was "one of the three frontiers of the 34 plans for the new industrial France presented with the President of the Republic on 12 September. A third of these plans will enable France to position itself in sectors of the future such as Cloud computing, Big data, e-education, embedded systems, the digital hospital, the challenges of sovereignty in terms of telecommunications, connected objects, augmented reality, the factory of the future and cybersecurity. The Strategic Committee for the Digital Sector of the French National Industry Council is the Parliament of the French digital industries. I hope that this committee will continue the work started three years ago, with the same spirit of sharing between industrialists, trade unions and the State and the same commitment that must now be translated into action by implementing the sector contract validated last July. »

Fleur PELLERIN said: "Digital technology is transforming the entire economy and society. Our ambition is twofold: to enable the assertion of a powerful and globally competitive core digital sector, and to prepare more broadly for the changes in our social and economic fabric resulting from the spread of digital technology. France needs a forum for exchange, consultation and promotion of action to define not only industrial, but also employment and training guidelines. »

A graduate of Sciences-Po Paris, Loïc Rivière, 41, began his career at the Government Information Service (SIG) before joining the French Association of Software and Internet Solutions Publishers (AFDEL) at its creation as General Delegate.
Loïc Rivière also directs the professional journal "Les Cahiers du numérique". "The digital revolution means that industrial policy also has to reinvent itself, because everything is based on the dynamics of innovation and entrepreneurship, the ability to grow quickly and internationally. So our industrial champions are being challenged as never before and our nuggets have a problem of going to scale. Our challenge will be to try to adopt a collective strategy. » he said.
