Breathe! Solutions to combat air pollution, by Olivier Blond - Foreword by Yann Arthus-Bertrand

Editions Eyrolles, March 21, 2019 - 176 Pages

Aair pollution kills, claiming 10 times more victims than road accidents. According to the WHO, it is responsible for 48,000 deaths a year in France - ten times more than road accidents - and for a third of all heart attacks and strokes worldwide.
The importance of what is at stake, but also the seriousness of the compromises (of which the Volkswagen affair is only one part) make it the biggest health scandal of the beginning of this century.
After this assessment, what do the authorities do? And yet, solutions exist in the field of technology, law and politics. What are we waiting for?
We are witnessing a profound transformation - economic, industrial and societal - that finally allows us to consider solutions to air pollution.

Committed and constructive, this documented essay, with a direct, clear and lively tone, begins by taking stock of this health crisis and then identifies pragmatic solutions. It does not simply denounce a state of affairs, it deciphers the challenges facing society; it identifies good practices; it gives ideas on how to adapt, such as reinventing mobility or surviving in polluted air ...

Olivier Blond is a journalist, writer and environmental activist. President of Breathethe national association for the preservation and improvement of air quality, he was also the editorial director of the GoodPlanet Foundation with Yann Arthus-Bertrand. He has already published several books, including "Pour en finir avec l'écologie punitive" (Editions Grasset).
