Alternatiba

Alternatiba: the citizen event on climate change

Start
Alternatiba Paris organizes the Village des Alternatives, a major festival of climate solutions on September 26 and 27, 2015, on the Place de la République in Paris. Climate change is a reality. Responding to it is now an emergency. But how can we act and take up this seemingly insurmountable challenge?
Fortunately, solutions exist: shared gardens, clean transport, renewable energy, solidarity savings... to protect the planet and live better while spending less.
It is to show that these alternatives are real and accessible to all that Alternatiba Paris exists. More than 50,000 people are expected to participate in this Parisian village for two days.

An the run-up to the COP21 climate negotiations, Paris will host the next "village of initiatives", Alternatiba, a collective of local initiatives fighting against climate change, on September 26th and 27th. At Place de la République, no less than 50,000 people are expected to attend and where the arrival of the Alternatiba Tower A 5,600-kilometre route starting from Bayonne on 5 June 2015 with 187 stages where volunteers took turns to complete part of the route on four-seater bikes in order to "...". to make known and grow all the alternatives that are already within our reach ".

The ambition of this gathering of hundreds of actors of change is precisely to bring together those who invent and want to share their practices, with those who want to act but do not always know how.
A village that will be composed of fifteen thematic districts, each of which will bring together dozens of initiatives in their field, with common spaces for concerts, events, meals and meetings, and this offer of alternatives at the individual level, as an innovative response to the social and climate challenge.

Organizations working in multiple fields

There will also be 300 organisations present on 26 and 27 September with innovative initiatives in various fields, such as :
- The fight against waste with the association Zero Waste France which advocates for legislation that is more favourable to the protection of the environment and the collective interest, through an advocacy activity that consists of making our proposals known to decision-makers and working to change the regulatory framework for waste management. with the implementation of a free zone by co-recycling and La Boutique Sans Argent where everyone will be able to bring an object that they no longer have use for, but which can be used by others and, conversely, find objects that are useful to them.
- The development of renewable energies thanks to citizen investment with the presence ofEnercoopa 100 % renewable electricity supplier, which will supply the village of initiatives and propose to the citizen to provide energy.
- The fight against food waste with a disco soup where the meal will be cooked thanks to unsold goods from food stores or markets.
- The reduction of individual transport with the possibility of testing the application of carpooling Microstop which allows us to find drivers doing the same short trips.
All these initiatives will be complemented by the pedestrianisation of the Place de la République and the surrounding streets, the holding of debates, the screening of films on climate change and festive moments with a concert on Saturday evening and a popular ball on Sunday. All of this to show that "The post-carbon society that we want to build will be happy and convivial, festive and supportive".

In Paris - but not only - all Alternatiba's volunteers are working for the COP21 :

- More than 70 Alternatiba collectives have been formed in France and Europe between October 2013 and today. See the map of the villages for the year 2015.
- The Coordination of Alternatiba organizes the Global Village of Alternatives which will take place on 5 and 6 December 2015 in Montreuil during COP21.
