On October 6 in Bayonne, more than 12,000 people gathered at the call of the Alternatiba initiative. This citizen mobilization attempted to respond to the following triple observation: the major international climate conferences have become empty shells - incapable of leading to real measures that are equal to the climate and social challenges, citizens are poorly informed (if not misinformed) on these essential issues, and finally, people who are aware of these issues too often feel powerless to act and become demobilized, even though alternatives already exist.
The objective of this first Alternatiba in Bayonne was therefore to highlight and bring together alternative citizen initiatives on climate issues, social justice, solidarity economy, relocations...
From the success of this great alternative gathering came an international call to create tens, hundreds and thousands of Alternatiba around the world. The goal: to build a dynamic and prepare a great mobilization by the end of 2015 before the next great climate summit is held in December 2015 in Paris (Le Bourget).
In response to the October 2013 call for proposals, people from the Ile-de-France region who are committed to concrete alternatives and motivated by the desire to build on the success of this project have decided to form a Ile-de-France collective! This region is also bubbling with initiatives combining local and global initiatives in key areas such as agriculture and food, energy, transport, housing, education, health, culture and the media. The Alternatiba dynamic is now launched in Ile-de-France. It should lead to the organisation of a large village of alternatives in the Paris Region during a weekend in June or September 2015, followed by a major international mobilisation event before the COP on 30 November.
Today, on the eve of the municipal and European elections, Europe Ecologie - Les Verts Ile-de-France wishes to relay this initiative and calls on all citizens, organisations or collectives who identify with this dynamic to participate in the creation of dozens of alternative villages by 2015.
There is an urgent need for a rapid strategy for the remobilization of civil society to put pressure on political leaders. On the road to Le Bourget, let hundreds of archipelagos of concrete utopia blossom now!
