Pure plagiarism. In literature, it's not very pretty, but in public health, it's very serious. In 2017, the European Union extended the use of glyphosate, the famous herbicide from the firm Monsanto/Bayer, for five years. This authorisation is the result of an expert report that plagiarised almost the entire document written by Monsanto for the occasion.
Ahe newspaper Le Monde reveals that the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung, or BfR), commissioned by the European Union to produce an expert opinion on glyphosate, has committed plagiarism of extreme gravity. He often copied word for word more than 4000 pages of the glyphosate approval dossier sent to the European authorities by Monsanto and its industrial allies. It was on the basis of this BfR report that the European Food Safety Authority, EFSA, concluded against all expectations that the product was not a danger to human health and recommended the extension of its authorisation.
The plagiarism was uncovered by two German researchers Stefan Weber and Helmut Burtscher. They claim that the BfR report is the result of plagiarism of more than 50 % and copy and paste of more than 70 % of documents issued by Monsanto. A slavish copy that has sidelined all independent studies that have documented the harmfulness of glyphosate. 72 % of the chapter on the state of research and independent studies published in the scientific literature comes from Monsanto. In addition, Bfr has copied in full all the statistical data and tables provided by the phytosanitary firm, now a subsidiary of Bayer, thus presenting and ne varieturThis information is completely contradictory to the expertise standards recommended by the OECD in particular.
A serious cheating that allowed the controversial industrialist and his lobbies to obtain a reprieve, time to develop, manufacture and distribute new pesticides. This is the case of the dicamba of Monsanto, which is starting to wreak havoc in the United States while waiting to establish itself in Europe. It is easier to understand how, by cheating and corrupting the health authorities, the crooked plant protection industry is establishing itself and making itself indispensable to farmers, with the utmost disregard for public health.
