Télécom ParisTech and Télécom Evolution present "Data Scientists! "a guide to data science professions: a snapshot of the various data professions (specialists in algorithms and mathematical models), from their historical foundations to their prospects for a future that is already within our grasp. To be obtained urgently!

Produced by Télécom ParisTech, in partnership with AirbusAirbus Defence and Space, a world leader in the aerospace industry, and the consultancy firm Upward Data, this 80-page guide is aimed at students and future students in data science, specialists in the field, companies wishing to recruit them, training and guidance professionals, the curious, in short anyone who wants to discover and better understand this teeming world that has conquered our daily lives.

« Data Scientists! "But what is this? And why so much enthusiasm? Today, "data", the information of all kinds that circulates on the Internet in particular, has taken such a central place in our lives that it concerns each and every one of us. The exclamation mark underlines the incredible effervescence of the field, the passionate enthusiasm of the women and men who are embarking on the exploration of this new world.
As pioneers in France in the field of data science training, Télécom ParisTech and Télécom Evolution wanted to offer a snapshot of the different professions to which these courses lead, in particular by having their teacher-researchers and former students support them.

Let's call him back, Télécom ParisTech training to innovate and undertake in a world that has become digital. Its teaching and research integrate all disciplines of information and communication sciences and technologies with a strong societal anchoring, enabling them to meet the major challenges of the 21st century. Its curricula graduate engineers, doctors and professionals and attract 55 % of foreign students. Its research offers original and multidisciplinary international expertise in six strategic areas: Big Data, Very Large Networks & Systems, Digital Confidence, Design-Interaction-Perception, Modeling for Digital, Digital Innovation. A school of the IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), Télécom ParisTech is a founding member of the ParisTech network and is positioned as the Paris-Saclay College of Digital Innovation, whose ambition is to become one of the world's leading innovation clusters.

As for Telecom EvolutionThe IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), which specializes in digital technology, is the continuing education brand of the IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom) telecom engineering grandes écoles: IMT Atlantique, Télécom ParisTech and Télécom SudParis. Télécom Evolution supports companies and organizations in building the skills of their employees around the digital transformation: Internet of Things, Big Data, Cybersecurity, Intelligent Transport, Information Systems, Service Platforms, etc. The school offers a complete range of training courses from initiation to expertise, in a wide variety of teaching methods, from MOOC accessible to all to certified training, and provided by the best experts and recognized professionals.

To carry out this project, the engineering school and the continuing education centre have joined forces with the skills of Airbus Defence and Space and the expertise of the recruitment consultancy firm Upward Data.

According to the LinkedIn barometer for "Le Monde Campus", young graduates in data science are the profiles most sought after by recruiters French social networking sites and companies are courting these "data scientists" for their skills in terms of digital transformation.
In a interview with Le Monde on May 16thIn 2013, Serge Abiteboul, a researcher at the Institut national de recherche en informatique et en automatique (Inria), and co-author of Terra Data (Editions Le Pommier, 348 p, 13 euros), advocated the emergence of a new training program for "data scientists": "Data science isn't just statistics. It's often very empirical techniques. That's why, in order to achieve a minimum understanding of the profession, you also need to have been confronted with real data from your formative years. The risk of some current training courses is that they are too theoretical. And then, in computer science twenty years ago, you had to know how to design large, very specialised programmes. Today, data scientists write relatively little code: they use toolboxes that are often open source. They may be less good "coders", but they are asked to know how to choose and compose the right software, to understand mathematics and the business environment. It's a job that requires a lot of neurons. »

This Guide brings together the testimonials of 28 professionals from the Telecom ecosystem. It offers 80 pages, including 17 job descriptions, focuses on sectorial fields, practical or unusual information... It can be read at once or consulted directly on a specific point. "Data Scientists! "is a real dive into the data professions, from their historical foundations to their prospects for a future that we are already touching.

The Guide is available free of charge at Télécom ParisTech, 46 rue Barrault, 75013 Paris and at Télécom Evolution, 37-39 rue Dareau, 75014 Paris. It will be distributed at the DataJob show (22 November 2017) and the Big Data Paris Congress (12 and 13 March 2018). It can be downloaded at
