Emmaus Connect, an association that promotes the digital inclusion of people in difficulty, announces the launch of the Internet component of its Connexions Solidaires programme.
WEB TROTTER: Internet access really for everyone!
At a time when our society is becoming increasingly digital, the Internet plays a vital role in the daily lives of populations in great difficulty. It has become an indispensable daily tool for job search, facilitates administrative procedures and creates social ties. It allows people to be reached or to identify themselves by email, to do things online, to consult job offers and to reply to them, to buy cheaper on the Internet, and also to keep in touch with their family who is abroad. However, the absence of a bank account, a fixed address, a lack of digital skills or financial insecurity are too often accompanied by reduced or non-existent access to the Internet: 57 % of French people with incomes of less than €900 per month do not have Internet access at home and 39 % of the beneficiaries of the Connexions Solidaires program do not have permanent housing.
Thanks to web trotters provided by the equipment manufacturer Huawei, prepaid Internet top-ups provided by the operator SFR, and educational support provided by Connexions Solidaires counselors, people in precarious or highly excluded situations can now benefit from a quality mobile Internet access solution at solidarity-based rates.
Composed of a case the size of a mobile phone with a SIM card and prepaid top-ups, the Web Trotter allows a high-speed internet connection in areas covered by wifi or 3G. In addition to this equipment, Connexions Solidaires offers educational support to develop the digital uses of the beneficiaries, who will thus be able to take full advantage of their Internet connection to look for a job, housing or access services that promote their social and professional integration.
Jean Deydier, Founder of Emmaus Connect says : "The recent CNNum(1) report "Towards a New Policy for Digital Inclusion" stresses that access to technology and the Internet is a prerequisite that has become mandatory but not sufficient. Our partners SFR and Huawei and ourselves are pleased to propose an innovative solution both in terms of technology and educational support so that digital technology becomes a tool for building a more inclusive society. »
With the support of SFR ET HUAWEI.

About Emmaus Connect
Created in 2012, Emmaus Connect is a member association of the Emmaus Movement whose mission is to help people in difficulty to develop their digital potential so that they can better integrate into our connected society.
One of the association's means of action is Connexions Solidaires, an innovative program designed in partnership with SFR and social action players. It provides solutions to a crucial problem that has been little addressed: sustainable access to telecommunications for the most fragile populations and the development of uses to better master these tools with a view to social and professional integration.
