Automotive supplier Valeo creates Valeo.ai, the world's first research center dedicated to artificial intelligence and deep learning in automotive applications, based in Paris. The aim is to attract a large scientific community, forge links and forge solid partnerships with the best research centers in France and around the world to produce the autonomous car, planned for 2020.
Ghanks to Valeo's leading position in the field of autonomous driving and the strong links forged between the Group and the scientific community, Valeo.ai aims to become a key player in the sector and contribute to the ongoing transformation of transport and mobility models.
Artificial intelligence and deep learning are becoming key elements in the response to the challenges posed by tomorrow's automated vehicles, from high-performance sensors capable of perceiving and understanding the context in which the car is evolving, to advanced automated driving functions in complex environments, intelligent interactions with users and learning capabilities through connected vehicles.
By launching Valeo.ai, the automotive supplier aims to attract a vast global scientific community dedicated to the development of cutting-edge automotive applications in the field of artificial intelligence and deep learning. With this in mind, Valeo.ai will be based in Paris, in order to forge links and forge strong partnerships with the best research centers in France and internationally, so as to welcome by the end of 2018 around 100 specialists from all over the world in the fields of algorithms, infrastructures, learning processes, validation and simulation in artificial intelligence for automotive applications.
The ambition of this new research center is to be connected to the academic and scientific community and to the world of startups, in close collaboration with Valeo's application centers worldwide, in order to jointly develop innovative solutions for the automotive sector. What's the objective? For Jacques Aschenbroich, Valeo Chairman and CEO: "The challenges of the autonomous and connected vehicle place Valeo, a technology leader, at the scientific frontiers of artificial intelligence and deep learning. With Valeo.ai, our ambition is to create a first-rate research center, linked to the world's best laboratories in the field and contributing to the development of applications for tomorrow's automobile. Located in Paris, we look forward to welcoming our scientific partners and the researchers and engineers who want to join us in this major scientific and technological adventure."
"Only those who collaborate with specialists from other sectors to manufacture the next generation of cars will survive, those who want to continue working in their own corner will die", Xu Heyi, head of Chinese automaker BAIC, told our colleague Echoeson the occasion of the launch of a "club" dedicated to automotive artificial intelligence by web giant Tencent.
