Consult one's centralized medical file on mobile phone

Start

As part of a U.S. program to provide access to online electronic medical records, Humetrix, a U.S. company, has developed iBluebutton, a two-way mobile communication tool between patients and doctors.

This mobile platform has two applications: one for the patient and one for the doctor. It gives the patient access to the complete medical record at any time by using the application from a smartphone or tablet. When the patient meets his doctor, he can transfer his electronic medical record in real time to his doctor's tablet (two-thirds of American doctors have one) thanks to Bluetooth technology.

This tool allows the patient to always have his entire medical file at his disposal and to share it with his doctor or to allow the latter to consult certain elements of it. This system also works the other way around and allows the doctor or hospital to transfer examinations, reports or X-ray images to the patient.

A centralized medical record

Even in the medical field, the adage that is usually attributed to marketing applies. It's all about having the right information at the right time. "The important thing is to have a current history of the patient's past at the time of diagnosis and to prevent illness and death," says Experton. A patient today sees many practitioners and specialists throughout his or her life. Here, technology allows the patient to have all of his or her medical records with him or her on their own and share them with the doctor. Equipped with his smartphone application, the patient can access all his medical data, the history of his health problems, the diagnoses associated with the name of each doctor, and also the list of prescribed drugs. Additional information is available such as the side effects of medications

This technology aims both to improve the quality and monitoring of care and to control the collective cost of health care spending, which is twice as high per capita in the United States as in France. Mobile tools such as the tablet will also remove the technological barrier.(Sources: Humetrix / Health 2.0 News - Dec 2012)
