A new SIM card to connect 50 billion objects by 2020

M2M technology, an acronym for Machine to Machine, is a technology that allows connected devices to communicate with each other, without any human intervention. Industrial equipment, energy installations, alarm monitoring systems or even medical monitoring systems, the fields of use are unlimited and are constantly multiplying. The report The Global Wireless M2M Market forecasts more than 50 billion connected objects by 2020.

More and more actors are nowadays imposing themselves in this new trend of the Internet of Things. According to a new GSMA report, thehe United States is said to be driving global innovation in M2M technology with 41 million connections this year, thehe M2M technology accounts for 10% of all mobile connections in the United States, driven by strong growth in the automotive and utility sectors. Either 19 % of all M2M connections worldwide.

U.S. operators are responding to this burgeoning growth by forming strategic alliances and tactical partnerships with industry specialists to address the specific needs of a range of vertical sectors.
M2M therefore mobilizes both telecom operators and connectivity providers, hardware manufacturers and software publishers.

Faced with a rich and very dynamic ecosystem, it is sometimes complex for a company to find its way around. All the more so as the diversity of the players and solutions proposed tend to pose real management problems for companies and interoperability between different equipment.

The Sim M2M board is at the heart of the communication process between machines. It allows devices to become intelligent and share information between themselves and those who use them. Based on the GSM standard, an M2M device is obviously based on a telecom network. But what happens in the event of poor coverage of this network, service interruption or accidental outages? In such cases, how can you ensure the continuity of service of your connected equipment? How to reduce the costs related to possible changes of operators and how to manage these telecom bills?

A monopoly of telecom operators until now, M2M connectivity is now based on a new alternative that is easier to manage and less expensive: the multi-operator M2M SIM card.
Designed to optimize network coverage areas, the multi-operator SIM card has the ability to connect to the available network regardless of the telecom operator. These new generation Sims M2M cards are thus able to manage several operators at the same time and to choose the best coverage, i.e. the network with the best signal quality.

The advantages of multi-operator are numerous: optimized resources, reduction of costs due for example to coverage tests or changes of Sim cards. Above all, it is an opportunity to create new and innovative services for companies. These multi-network Sims cards can be used anywhere in the world and allow the transmission of information from connected equipment in a reliable and secure way while benefiting from very competitive international roaming rates.

In order to simplify the management of these cards as well as the associated boxes and equipment, some players are making the most of this by offering centralized platforms for the remote management of communications and associated invoices. Tailor-made solutions, packaged solutions, Sims card packages adapted to the use, there are therefore real alternatives to the M2M offers proposed by the incumbent operators.

Machine to Machine involves connectivity solutions tailored to the needs of each company. And because the constraints of this technology mean that the availability of the connected equipment is essential, the multi-operator brings today a concrete answer. As a future-oriented solution for Machine to Machine connectivity of connected objects, multi-operators certainly promise a high level of service quality for companies that wish to take advantage of it.
