EIT Digital: meeting the needs of citizens in smart cities

Start

Influence your city's choices interactively? Know the weather in real time in a specific place? See at a glance everything that is happening in your city at a given time? ... At a time of instantaneity, mega data, open data, social networks, mobility, sharing, the citizen becomes impatient and new needs emerge.
To help cities respond to these new needs, new digital innovations on a European scale are emerging. The European EIT Digital programme will present for the first time at Innovative City on 24-25 June 2015 some of its digital innovations to meet the needs of citizens in the smart cities of tomorrow and to stimulate digital innovation and education.

Dhese innovations will all be supported in their development by the European programme EIT Digital and have been developed in an entrepreneurial spirit by European startups (Localidata, PlugSurfing, wezzoo, Vulog) from Madrid, Berlin, Paris and Nice, as well as partners grouped into multidisciplinary and international project teams (FlashPoll, Connecting Digital Cities, ProtoWorld, 3cixty, cityOmeters).

EIT Digital is a European programme for accelerating innovation created in 2010. Its mission is to make Europe the leader in digital innovation, with a view to boosting economic growth and improving the quality of life of its citizens.
The programme brings together entrepreneurs from more than 130 partners including large companies, SMEs, start-ups, universities and research centres and eight lines of action for which the most promising results from research, breakthrough technologies and business strategies from the ecosystem and beyond are selected with the ambition to lead these innovations to success in global markets.

It invests in strategic areas to accelerate the market uptake of digital technologies resulting from research and to bring entrepreneurial talent and leadership to Europe. EIT Digital's innovation and education activities are organised around and within co-location centres where students, researchers, engineers, business developers and entrepreneurs come together to support the digital society.

EIT Digital is one of the communities (called Knowledge and Innovation Community - KIC) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Since 2010, this community has been continuously mobilising talent, ideas, technologies, investment and business activities across Europe and beyond to stimulate breakthrough digital innovations.

EIT Digital is headquartered in Brussels with co-location centres in Berlin, Eindhoven, London, Helsinki, Paris, Stockholm, Trento as well as Budapest and Madrid.
