Biomim'Expo: the meeting place for biomimicry and bio-inspired innovations

Start
We have been looking forward to it since its first edition in 2016, the biomimicry exhibition opens on June 29th and 30th 2017 on the CEEBIOS campus in Senlis. It is the meeting place for all those who are looking to innovate by listening to the environment in order to respect it more, and to listen to other disciplines in order to get off the beaten track, who are already working on approaches derived from biomimicry or who are simply interested in it and want to know more.
UP' magazine is a partner of the event

Vs a real opportunity for the future, biomimicry is a booming approach with strong multi-sectoral potential, at the heart of the breakthrough innovation strategies of many companies, research centres and innovative businesses, because it is at the heart of the new transition underway: saving energy, producing less waste, combining growth and biodiversity, working and communicating in open and collegial systems, deforming thinking to innovate through decompartmentalized approaches, inspired by the 3.8 billion years of R&D in life!

Biomimicry is a forgotten fact, which is resurfacing with the limits of the economy of abundance, with the growth of scientific capacities and with the acceleration of societal expectations.

Biomim'expo, is therefore the great annual gathering of actors and stakeholders in biomimicry and approaches inspired by Nature to innovate and create the conditions for a renewed and environmentally friendly development model.
It is a meeting point for scientists, researchers, engineers, politicians, entrepreneurs, financiers, etc.; for biologists, physicists, chemists, town planners, architects, ecologists, philosophers, sociologists, etc.; for large groups, startups, public bodies, schools, universities, research centres, etc. because exchange and multiculturalism are accelerators of innovation.

Our times demand innovation and paradigm shift. Biomimicry, which offers a new and regenerating approach, and which already has a network of innovative, motivated and exciting players, deserves this annual meeting. This is due to a conjunction of trends and phenomena :
- Biomimicry is in the spotlight. The media are talking about it more and more, applications are developing, the ecosystem is growing and getting organized.
- Biomimicry and bio-inspired approaches are accelerating, the network is being structured, and exchanges are increasingly felt to be necessary.
- All the players demand and expect better interaction, collegiality, multiculturalism, synergies and collaborations between scientific disciplines, between large groups and start-ups, between private structures and public bodies...
- Biomimicry certainly consists in doing research differently, by drawing inspiration from the living to take advantage of the solutions and inventions produced by nature ... but nothing will be done by staying in its silos, nothing will be done without the capacity, the ability, to draw inspiration from others, without opportunities to meet and share.

The future must be bio-inspired to be bio-compatible, and multi-inspired to be creative and innovative.

The City of Senlis has chosen biomimicry to create Ceebios, the European Centre of Excellence in Biomimicry, a campus of activities in the north of Paris in place of the 10 hectares of a former military district, as part of a reconversion programme. Ceebios, unique of its kind, meets the market's expectations and is positioned upstream of many sectors given the multidisciplinary nature of biomimicry. In a campus spirit, the centre promotes exchanges and cooperation between scientists, research & development teams from major industrial groups, engineers, entrepreneurs, teachers and students.

This event also aims to (re)discover biomimicry. It is therefore aimed at scientists and industrialists, of course, but also public and private decision-makers and managers for whom environmental issues have an impact on their daily and strategic choices and/or who are simply looking for inspiration and innovation. Indeed, beyond the scientific aspects, biomimicry also offers another way of thinking innovation, cooperation and management.

If biomimicry is not a scientific discipline as such, it is certainly a network and an ecosystem, perhaps even a field under construction. Patents are developing, research units (often mixed) are expanding, political and industrial decision-makers are interested in it, public opinion loves it, training courses are being prepared ...

The economic situation is favourable and presents a combination of factors that accelerate biomimicry (energy costs, the search for interdisciplinary agility, the need for breakthrough innovations that are no longer marginal, a change in the way we understand biodiversity, the questioning of barriers to entry, the crossing of technological thresholds, changes in mentalities, etc.).

The 2017 edition is a composite of summer university, symposium, trade show, forum and showroom: conferences, round tables, debates ... but also and above all demonstrations, workshops, products, projects, prototypes, to show who does what and what they do.
The idea is that political, scientific and economic leaders, qualified personalities and opinion leaders should express themselves, not necessarily exclusively on biomimicry, but on their vision of the environment in the service of innovation and development, and vice versa.
