The University of Amsterdam (UvA) will create a world-class centre in the field of artificial intelligence at the Amsterdam Science Park. The new research and co-creation space will be the place for education, research and entrepreneurship in the field of artificial intelligence. It will give an enormous boost to collaboration between Amsterdam's knowledge and research institutions and the business community in this growing market. The City of Amsterdam is providing €4 million to support this initiative.
L’he evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) will, we know, have a decisive impact on the future. The impact of new initiatives, from nursing robots to connected cars, depends on machine learning algorithms and intelligent software.
For Simone Kukenheim, town councillor for education, "The Amsterdam Science Park is a leading centre for scientific research and education. By creating a centre for artificial intelligence, the City of Amsterdam and the UvA will strengthen Amsterdam's knowledge economy and the position of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Science Park as one of Europe's most important centres for scientific education and research. »
Geert ten Dam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of theUvA...says: "Amsterdam is widely recognized in the Netherlands and abroad for its leading scientific expertise in the field of AI. In recent years we have established excellent partnerships with, among others, Bosch in the Deltalab and Qualcomm in the QUVA laboratory. In this new building, we can create more such partnerships to meet the technological and social challenges of AI. The use of RN also offers many opportunities for healthcare, safety and sustainability issues. Because AI also has major legal, ethical and cultural implications, UvA, as a global institution, is ideally equipped to research these aspects from different disciplinary perspectives. »
Education, research and co-creation
Developments in the field of artificial intelligence are progressing rapidly. This initiative aims to respond to the rapid growth of education, research and co-creation in the field of computer science and artificial intelligence. It will be an open centre where innovative solutions will be developed in various fields, new products and applications are developed in collaboration with the private sector, and where students and professionals are trained in the latest AI knowledge. The aim is to start construction in 2019 so that the building can be in use by the beginning of 2021.
