teamLab... Behind this brightly coloured logo lies a visual and immersive experience presented for the first time in France. From 15 May 2018, the Japanese collective teamLab will be setting down its bags in the Grande Halle de la Villette and offering the public a 360° artistic project spread over more than 2,000 m2 : an immersive and interactive installation that crosses the boundaries of art, science, technology and creativity. The paintings evolve according to the movements of the visitors for a guaranteed dreamlike change of scenery.
Awith teamLab: Beyond the limitsThis collective - made up of artists, programmers, engineers, 3D animators, mathematicians and architects - pushes the boundaries of exhibition and leisure and invites young and old to live a new experience: that of interacting with monumental digital works of art. In this immersive and interactive installation, visitors are surrounded by 360° images straight from the imagination of teamLab. Inspired both electronically and organically, the paintings evolve according to the movements and movements of the visitors. The exhibition itself becomes a living digital organism that constantly produces new images in total rupture with our daily life, for a dreamlike change of scenery.
teamLab offers five large-format, immersive installations that appeal to visitors' senses... but also to their imagination! At the frontiers of art, science and technology, each of them is a journey in itself; playful, poetic and hypnotic; transporting the visitor to an enchanted and colourful world where everything becomes possible.
Dreamlike landscapes, fantasized fauna and flora and natural elements redefined in the great tradition of Japan; the different paintings here evolve according to the movements of the visitors, who become the actors of their own experience. Flowers open and disperse on contact with them, they interact with the flow of water, butterflies, crocodiles, birds or funny characters. Living scenes, constantly evolving and regenerating for a moment of discovery, creation and wonder.
Since 2018 is the year of Japan in France, Japanese culture is being honored through a large number of events that will take place until February 2019. teamLab is therefore part of this tribute to Japan's cultural diversity, called "Japonisme 2018 : Souls in Resonance".

5 installations for 5 creative worlds
This is the collective's first major exhibition in France with an original creation that blithely mixes technology and creative arts, pushing the limits of the possible ever further. The exhibition presented at La Villette will be no exception to the rule: paintings, imagined at 100% by the members of the collective, will change according to the visitor and his movements, putting him, once again, at the heart of an immersive and creative device.
Graffiti Nature and its colorful ecosystem, Peace can be Realized Even without order and its funny hologrammatic musicians, the light painting crow Crows are Chased and the Chasing Crows are Destined to be Chased as well..., Blossoming on Collision or birds of The Way of Birds - Seated Contemplationjust like the latest production, Impermanent Life are all dreamlike universes tailor-made for the Great Hall.
The main installation, Universe of Water Particles, Transcending Boundaries consists of an impressive 11-metre high waterfall. It stretches along the wall and on the floor, circulates in the exhibition space and around the feet of the spectator, modifying the flow of the waterfall.
teamLab, a protean collective of Japanese artists
Formed in 2001 by Toshiyuki Inoko, teamLab defines itself as an artistic collective, an interdisciplinary group of "ultra-technologists" whose collaborative practice seeks to navigate the confluence of art, science, technology, design and nature. Specialists from all walks of life such as artists, programmers, engineers, 3D animators, mathematicians and architects make up the teamLab team.
teamLab aims to explore the new relationship between humans and nature through art. "New digital technologies have allowed us to liberate art from the physical plane and to transcend borders. We see no separation between us and nature: the two form a whole. Everything takes place in the long, fragile but always wonderful continuity of life. »
teamLab has been the subject of numerous exhibitions around the world: Tokyo, Milan, London, Singapore or recently Menlo Park in California. Each of them has been a huge public and critical success. Currently, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne is devoting an exhibition to it until April 15, 2018 as part of the NGV Triennial.
teamLab's work is part of the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, the Art Gallery of South Australia in Adelaide, the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, the Asia Society Museum in New York, the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection in Istanbul, and the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.
