Banks: 46% of account holders will use mobile services in 2017
According to the firm's most recent report Forrester ResearchBy 2017, there will be 108 million U.S. online banking users by 2017, representing 46% of all U.S. bank account holders.
For comparison purposes, and again according to the statistics of the said study, only 13% of US smartphone owners and 9% of European smartphone owners regularly use the mobile banking services offered by their respective financial institutions.
However, this business segment is growing rapidly and Forrester analysts believe that mobile banking will benefit from favourable winds over the long term. In fact, analysts confirm that the proliferation of smartphones will be enough to drive growth in mobile banking.
For now, a large majority (45%) of users are content to check their bank balance online. Nearly 61% of consumers check their banking history, while 31% of them transfer money between their different accounts.
In the United States, 65% of smartphone owners use the web to access the desired banking site, while 45% of them use a dedicated application instead.
