J.A.R.V.I.S, the artificial intelligence in Iron Man, has now become a reality. 16 students from Epitech worked for two years on the interconnection between human sciences and programming. The resulting technology, Vocalys, allows remote control of software and objects connected by voice, in everyday language.
Vocalys is a project that aims to make your entire digital environment - software, machines and peripherals - controllable by voice. The keyboard and mouse are so deeply rooted in our habits that we have forgotten how limited and slow they are. Vocalys allows you to replace the keyboard and mouse entirely, or can simply be used as a complementary means of control. You can then alternate between manual control and voice control according to your desires, depending on your needs. And wherever you are, you can control all your devices! Searching through the menus is long and tedious. Just ask for what you want, Vocalys will find it for you. The questions "How do we do it? ", " Where do we click? " or "What is the keyboard shortcut? "will no longer make sense. Forget the manual and boring research: spend less time adapting to a constantly changing digital environment and only worry about what you want to do.
To free the user from any constraints and avoid launching an application like Siri, Vocalys is installed by default. Control of a computer or software by voice is then quick and easy.
Vocalys adapts to all types of machines and can easily be extended to all languages. It can be used in addition to the keyboard/mouse duo, which is already part of everyone's habits.
Freedom of movement
Voice control naturally makes sense in certain situations:
- perform a remote action,
- keep your hands free,
- not having to find the button in the menus,
- actuate a command more quickly by voice.
Vocalys also has a voice to request information or ask a question if it does not understand a request. The team led by Thomas Solignac, Epitech promo 2015, won 2nd prize at the Epitech Innovative Projects Forum last November.
Next Steps
The Epitech school team now wants the project to be put on the market. They need:
- Sign an industrial partnership
- Enriching Vocalys through contact with experts in linguistics
- Creating a bridge between research and the industrial world in automatic language processing.
