The 7th edition of the Fondation Jacques Rougerie - Institut de France international architecture competition is launched. The architect, the engineer, the designer, all participate at their own level in the development and construction of the world to come. Looking further, beyond acquired thoughts and established concepts, these entrepreneurs, these creators have the capacity together to invent new rules, to propose new directions: equipment, living, mobility and energy environments in response to the great current and future environmental challenges of our planet. The prizes of the Jacques Rougerie Foundation support and accompany this approach. Innovation and architectural disruption, sustainable development, resilience in the face of major climate change are the key words of this new edition of the international architecture competition to encourage, stimulate and reward inventiveness, creativity and audacity.

Arch visionary, Jacques Rougerie leads his two passions, the sea and architecture, at the same time. He bases his research and achievements on the principle of biomimicry, while taking into account sustainable development. He builds habitats, underwater laboratories, sea centres, transparent hulled vessels, underwater museums and projects villages and places of life under the sea in order to make as many people as possible aware of the beauty and the fundamental role of the sea in the great history of humanity.
Its flagship project, SeaOrbiter, synthesizes more than 30 years of innovative research in the fields of marine and underwater architecture. Inspired since the beginning by the work of Jules Verne, he has adopted the maxim: "Everything a man can imagine, other men will be able to achieve".
He was elected in 2008 to the Institut de France - Académie des Beaux-Arts.
Throughout my life I have given substance to my dreams and made them come true thanks to encounters with Men who believed in my vision of a prospective architecture and helped me to implement it. Without their support, many of my projects would not have seen the light of day. Today, it is my duty to help the new generations, to make them in turn benefit from the support they need to build the future. The Foundation's Awards
All architectural projects submitted must be in one of these two universes: the Ocean, the guarantor of our environmental and societal living environment for tomorrow, or Space, the field of development and technological applications essential for the future of our civilization. This year, the Foundation is adding to the Grand Prizes - whose theme is free - three Focuses to provide a prospective vision targeted at the medium term or preparing for an ecological and social emergency on a continent. This approach was born out of a desire to respond to prospective issues targeted in the medium term or in response to a global emergency.
The Fondation Jacques Rougerie - Institut de France will thus reward between three and six authors of projects presenting an architectural innovation related to Space, the Sea or the Rise of the Ocean Level, as follows :

Each Jury reserves the right to award the Grand Prize to the winner of a Focus and thus accumulate the prizes. It is thus possible to win both prizes in the same category if the project meets the required criteria and illustrates excellence.

Terms and conditions of participation
The competition is free of charge and is open to architects, engineers, designers, students and professionals. Candidates are invited to set up multidisciplinary teams to respond to the competition and promote collective reflection and cross-disciplinary skills.
