On Wednesday 15 April, the National Assembly Chamber was almost empty. One of the most sensitive aspects of the Intelligence Act was being debated, namely the surveillance of the Internet by "black boxes", or algorithms. These will be tasked with automatically monitoring the billions of pieces of data transiting the network in order to massively detect suspicious behaviour corresponding to what is known about terrorist or criminal activities. A Pandora's box is thus opening up before our very eyes.
