A new Ethernet-based safety network solution

Start

Extreme Networks, Inc. today introduced a network solution for physical security based on Ethernet. Designed to help reduce installation, operation and maintenance costs, it also simplifies all operations associated with networked physical security systems, such as integrated alarms, IP surveillance cameras, access door closures and more.

This solution consists of a portfolio of Ethernet switches designed to reduce installation and operating costs through automation features.

The Extreme Networks physical security network solution, provided in conjunction with leading technology partners, supports video surveillance and perimeter security systems, "intelligent" buildings, traffic cameras, alarm systems, and tracking systems. The software intelligence in the ExtremeXOS® operating system automates tasks such as camera and device recognition, configuration, authentication, power management with Power over Ethernet (PoE/PoE+), and network policy assignment to give the network significantly higher resilience and availability.

The solution helps to reduce installation and maintenance time in order to keep the network secure and available at all times. The switches can be configured at a granular level to support specific equipment such as a single model of surveillance camera. Each camera can then be authenticated on the network and assigned to a specific security network with the beneficial effect of reducing interference from other equipment and/or services.

According to a recent report by Frost & Sullivan, entitled "Global Physical Security Information Management Market, "The global physical security market is expected to reach $2.79 billion by 2021. Sophisticated and reliable networks will therefore play a key role in this growth, as high-bandwidth, ultra-high-resolution video is widely deployed to secure property and people and to meet user expectations for high quality video images.

"Extreme Networks is focused on features that enable reliable network reliability and operational efficiency by facilitating the adoption of physical security made more efficient by IP-based digital devices," said Vince Ricco, Director of Business Development at Axis Communications Inc., a member of the Technology Partner Program. "As the surveillance market undergoes a major shift from analog CCTV to IP video, it's good to see a vendor focusing on software intelligence to prioritize the integration of physical security equipment. Physical security is moving across networks and a seamless infrastructure is crucial in terms of both quality and reliability. »

"Milestone Systems is pleased to partner with Extreme networks for its video management solutions," said Reinier Tuinzing, Director of Strategic Alliances at Milestone America. "Network control, management and optimization are key to the reliable operation of video management facilities. With the introduction of Summit switches, Extreme Networks continues to demonstrate a strong understanding of the needs of the video management market. »

"As the industry moves towards more sophisticated and integrated physical security systems, there is growing customer demand for Ethernet networking solutions that can provide greater port access security, enhanced capacity and PoE to centrally control and manage multiple security devices," said Bill Murphy, Director of Marketing at Extreme Networks. "The capabilities of our solution reduce the number of costly maintenance tasks that can cost up to 1,500 $ each time personnel are required to repair or diagnose faulty equipment, and that's what makes the difference. »

The Extreme Networks physical security solution includes the following switches Summit® X440, Summit X460and Summit X670all running on the modular operating system. ExtremeXOS® . Summit switches support PoE+ with a wide range of power options, allowing more devices per switch. By using the Extreme Network solution for physical security, organizations can improve installation time, reduce technician intervention, and increase port access security with greater user visibility and better equipment. The solution enables maximum load on each switch and delivers improved performance, speed and reliability.

Extreme networks took part last week in the "Universités de la Sécurité" in Deauville, organized by AN2V (French Association in the field of video surveillance, bringing together end customers, integrators and manufacturers in the field), Axis also participated in this event. Extreme Networks will be present on Milestone's booth during the next ExpoProtection 2012 (the main event in the "Physical security" field in France) which will take place in Paris, Porte de Versailles from December 4 to 7.
