Start

From March 22nd to 28th will take place in Tunis on 4th edition of the World Free Media Forum (FMML) to promote freedom of expression and the struggle for an alternative form of communication. This major event is an opportunity for journalists, communication activists, independent media support organizations from around the world to offer self-directed activities. At the end of the Forum, a world charter for free media.

Tunisia will host the 4th edition of the World Free Media Forum (WFMF) from 22 to 28 March 2015 on the site of El Manar University in Tunis. The World Free Media Forum was born within the framework of the World Social Forums through the meeting between activists in favour of freedom of expression and the struggle for another form of communication. These activists were involved in the history of the countless experiences and struggles led by independent media.

This 4th edition is being held two years after the last edition of the WMLF which brought together in Tunis bloggers, journalists, popular communicators, associations, audiovisual producers, developers, hackers and academic and independent researchers. The profusion of initiatives enabled enlightening exchanges on freedom of expression, the monopolization of knowledge, Internet issues, community radio, the reappropriation of information, free software, among other topics discussed. The last edition of the WMLF was also very rich in exchanges and perspectives to continue the struggle for the right to communication and information throughout the world.

The different structures involved in the dynamics of the WMLF are therefore looking forward to a 4th edition in 2015. Like the last edition, the next WMLF will start two days before the World Social Forum from 24 to 28 March, and will continue during the Forum.
It will be an opportunity to deepen all these reflections and consolidate convergences between our different structures and initiatives. The next edition of the WFTL will also and above all be an opportunity to participate in the construction of the World Charter for Free Media, which is intended to be a tool for struggles and advocacy for the different structures and organizations around the world that defend freedom of expression and the right to communication. In the meantime, organizations are invited to comment on the following points a draft of the Charter.

The WMLF is built and nurtured by the initiatives of the actors involved: journalists, associations, bloggers, news producers, NGOs, representatives of the social movement and citizens, researchers, developers. You and your organisation are invited to propose activities (or to join those that others will initiate).
To propose an activity for the first two days of the WMLF (before the WSF), simply go to the WMLF website in the "Propose an activity" section http://www.fmml.net/activite and fill in the dedicated form, by choosing one of the following options:

1. Communication rights, common good and regulations for democratic communication
2. Social movements, independent media and the emergence of new social and political actors
3. Organization of free media, transnational networks, info-integration and business models
4. Sovereignty, Internet governance and technological appropriation and counter-powers

Deadline for submission of proposals: 22 February 2015 for the activities of the first two days (March 22 and 23). These activities concern only the Free Media Forum. The activities that will take place from 24 March onwards will take place within the framework of the World Social Forum. They must be registered on the WSF website until 10 February.

The proposals will then be studied and merged according to the so-called clustering principle (grouping of similar proposals in workshops).
If you have any questions and would like to participate in the organization of the WMLF, please do not hesitate to contact the organization team: info[at]fmml.net
